Accessibility

There are no on-site car parking facilities and only limited parking within the immediate area. Further details on local car parks can be found here.

Access to the building is through the palace gardens on level tarmac paths. The building is on ground level and has two floors open to visitors. The ground floor is step-free and accessible for wheelchair users, but the first floor can only be reached via a flight of stairs with handrails to both sides.

Assistance dogs are permitted.

Bench seats are available in the main entrance and there is some seating within the garden area.

The ticketing area has lots of light, but the ground floor corridor area is more dimly lit.

Loans of wheelchairs and walkers are available (the venue requests that visitors using mobility scooters leave them at the front entrance and use one of their wheelchairs).

The ground floor has an audio-visual room showing an informative video about the palace. There are audio tours available for visitors with visual impairments and also with British Sign Language.

Audio guides are available at a cost and include a video tour of the first floor for those who are unable to access the floor via the stairs. The audio guides are also suitable for hearing aids with a ‘T’ switch.

More detailed information on accessibility can be found here.

Brief description

With its Indo-Saracenic architecture and exotic interior, the Royal Pavilion is a Grade I listed palace located within the heart of Brighton, East Sussex.

The lavish building has an interesting and turbulent history - primarily built as a pleasure palace for the Prince Regent in the 1700s, it has also been a royal residence for Queen Victoria, an event venue (it once hosted a flea circus!) and a military hospital during the First World War.
