"The Keep is on the edge of Brighton, in Moulsecoomb. We are just off the A27 and near to the university campuses of the University of Sussex and Brighton University, and the Amex Stadium. We are a 10 minute walk from Falmer railway station, and several local buses stop near us. Parking costs
Parking costs, per vehicle per visit, are:
Tuesdays, Wednesday and Fridays (car park open 10am-4pm): £4
Thursdays and Saturdays (car park open 10am-1pm): £2

Directions:
From the east (Lewes/Falmer): On A27, once past the Falmer/Universities turn off, get into the left hand lane (A270). Follow signs for Stanmer Park but stay in the left hand lane as you come off the slip road. You will come down to some traffic lights, take the left turning (you will now see a big ‘The Keep’ sign). Turn right just before the railway arch.
From the west (Brighton/Shoreham): On A270 follow signs for Stanmer Park/Lewes. Once past the Coldean Lane Junction, you will come to a set of traffic lights that will split into three directions. Take the right hand lane signposted ‘The Keep’. Go under the flyover and get into the left hand lane. Go straight over the next traffic lights (you will now see a big ‘The Keep’ sign. Turn right just before the railway arch. On A27 travel via Coldean Lane, turn left onto A270 and follow signs for Stanmer Park/Lewes as above.
There is a large bike shelter facility in The Keep car park.
Directions via cycle paths
From Falmer train station: There is a cycle path and footpath from the south side of Falmer train station which links to the Moulsecoomb estate via The Keep. For further details please see the ‘by train’ section.
From Lewes: There is a cycle route between Lewes and Brighton which passes the eastbound (Brighton to Lewes) Brighton Academy bus stop. From there follow the pedestrian directions from this stop.
From Brighton: you can cross the A270 at Coldean Lane and follow the westbound (Lewes to Brighton) route from the bus stop. Alternatively, you can continue to the Brighton Academy bus stop and follow the eastbound directions."

We recommend that Reading Room visitors order documents in advance, though it is not mandatory. You do not need to book to access our Reference Room."

The nearest station is Falmer which is serviced by regular trains to and from Brighton, Lewes, and Eastbourne.
Directions from Falmer stationFrom Brighton – exit platform 2 via the gates, turn left and use the bridge or ramp to cross over the railway. On the other side proceed as if coming from Lewes.
From Lewes – exit platform 1 via the gates. Turn right and walk down the path to the very end and go down the steps or ramp. Turn right and go through the short tunnel under the railway. At the end, turn left – the entrance to The Keep is in front of you.

By busBrighton Academy bus stopThe following Brighton & Hove buses stop just outside The Keep car park at the Brighton Academy bus stop:
- Number 23 (Brighton Marina – County Hospital – Queens Park – Lewes Road – Universities)
- Number 25 (Palmeira Square – Lewes Road – Universities),
- Number 28 (Brighton – Lewes – Ringmer),
- Number 5B (Hangleton – Hove – Brighton – Hollingbury – Universities (peak times only)
Directions from the Brighton Academy bus stop
Westbound (from Lewes to Brighton): From the bus stop, walk towards Brighton for a short way and then turn left and follow the steps or ramp down to The Keep’s car park.
Eastbound (Brighton to Lewes): From the bus stop, head towards the junction where there is double crossing point to your right. There are pedestrian light controls for all crossings. Cross the single carriageway to a pedestrian island then cross over the two-lane road. Go under the A270 and cross the road. Turn right and pass the bus stop for buses from the Lewes direction towards Brighton on your left. Follow the steps or ramp down to The Keep’s car park.
Coldean Lane bus stopThe following Brighton & Hove buses stop at Coldean Lane, which is approximately 10 minutes’ walk from The Keep:
- Number 29 (Brighton – Lewes – Isfield – Uckfield – Crowborough – Tunbridge Wells)
- Number 24 (Chruchill Square – Hollingbury)
Directions from Coldean Lane bus top
Westbound (Lewes to Brighton): From the bus stop, turn left and follow Barcombe Road (it runs parallel to Lewes Road (A270)) and continue as it curves away from the A270. Follow it as it becomes a footpath. At the end of the path, turn left into Ashurst Road. Turn left onto the path which leads along the side of The Keep and the car park.
Eastbound (Brighton to Lewes): From the bus stop, cross the A270 at the junction, or use the underpass, and then follow the westbound directions above."
