Accessibility:
The gardens have been designed to be fully-accessible to all visitors regardless of their ability, with all paths around the formal garden being wheelchair-accessible. There is a large parking area, which is flat and tarmacked, and the entrance is level and flat with automatic doors. Wheelchairs are available to borrow from the main entrance. Mobility scooters are also available for hire at £6 each, but it is advisable to phone in advance to book one of these.
Toilets with disability facilities are available in the main entrance, the large greenhouse and stable block / restaurant areas.
A shuttle buggy is available to transport guests to different parts of the garden with a driver that can answer your queries about the venue. Assistance dogs are welcome.
Brief Description:
The Middleton Estate, upon which the gardens now stand, has a history going back over 400 years. Its roots are based on the earliest voyages of the East India Company and the estate was important in the birth of the British Empire. 200 years ago William Paxton created a Regency park on the estate, but in the 20th century the mansion was destroyed by fire and the parkland was divided into farms.
The current garden areas are a blend of modern and historic with a range of themed gardens, the world’s largest single-span glasshouse, tropical butterfly house, play areas and a national nature reserve. It stages events and courses throughout the year and is responsible for a number of scientific and preservation projects.
The venue also holds a number of events, and when last visited in October 2017, there was a Bird of Prey display at 2.30pm, a model weekend exhibition, and an apple exhibition. Please look at the venue's website for full details of its events programme.
The site is currently seeing almost £7m worth of investment to restore the Regency landscape including archaeological work, lakes, waterfalls and the Regency planting that would have been in the park 200 years ago.

Directions:
From Carmarthen: At the Pensarn roundabout (A40/A48/A484) take the A40 east. Stay on the A40 for around 8 miles then take the left turn onto the B4310 where the brown sign points towards the National Botanic Garden. At the first roundabout take the first exit; at the second roundabout take the second exit towards the main entrance to the gardens.
From the east: At the roundabout at the end of the M4 take the second exit onto the A48 (the first exit is the services). Continue on the A48 for around 8 miles and take the slip road where the brown sign points towards the National Botanic Garden. This road will bend around on itself and terminate at a T junction with the B4310. Turn left onto the B4310. At the first roundabout take the second exit; at the second roundabout take the second exit towards the main entrance to the gardens.
