Accessibility:

The zoo is accessible to all, however there are steep hills so the zoo has created a route for anyone with a disability. Manual wheelchairs are available to hire. Call ahead to reserve on 01206 331292. All toilets are fully accessible to all. Assistance dogs are allowed at the zoo but you have to call ahead at least 24 hours in advance. Further information can be found on the zoo's website. There are disability parking areas at the top end of the zoo's car parks.

Brief Description:

Colchester zoo was originally called Stanway Hall Park Zoo. It was opened by Frank and Helena Farrar in 1963 and expanded in the 90's. The zoo's aim is to create a natural living environment for it's animals with conversation and breeding projects to help endangered species.

Directions:

Situated 3.8 miles from Colchester. Head S on A134, taking 3rd exit at roundabout continuing on A134. At next roundabout take 2nd exit onto B1022. Follow B1022/ Shrub End Road/Maldon Road (All same road).  The zoo will be sign posted and on your left hand side off of B1022. OSTL 953220.

Transport:

Buses run along the B1022 with stops outside the zoo with a short walk to the zoo. Easily accessible by car.
