Accessibility

There is limited parking at Bridgend Miniature Railway (OS SS 882843), with no designated disability parking spaces. However you can find further parking close by at the Parc Slip Vistor Centre and Café (at OS SS 881841, directly opposite the railway). Bridgend Miniature Railway is situated on uneven grass and gravel but has paving nearby. Contact the venue directly for further accessibility information.

Brief description

The Bridgend Miniature Railway is run by volunteers and enthusiasts of scale model engineering from the Bridgend and District Model Engineering Society. Situated right next to the Parc Slip Nature reserve, The Bridgend Miniature Railway plays host to many year round and plays host to many events for children, including Halloween and Birthday parties which can be hired by £40 deposit for the day, as well as open days and showcases for the latest trains the club volunteers have produced. Otherwise on open days the Railway is free to visit.

Directions

The nearest town to The Bridgend Miniature Railway is Bridgend (4.0 miles).

Starting on Derwin Road (OS SS 906800), Turn Left at the end of the road, joining the A4061/Boulevard De Villenave D’Ornon heading West. Continue on the A4061/Boulevard De Villenave D’Ornon until you reach a Roundabout past a set of traffic lights. At the Roundabout, Take the 2nd Exit onto the A4063/Tondu Road, heading North-West.

Continue straight on the A4063/Tondu Road for approximately 2.2 miles, heading straight over the Mini-Roundabout at OS SS 899821 and under the motorway bridge at OSS SS 896827 past Heol Ty’n-Y-Garn, until you reach the roundabout at OS SS 896832. At the Roundabout, Take the 1st Exit onto the B4281/Fountain Road, heading West.

Continue Straight on the B4281/Fountain Road for 1.0 mile until you reach The Fountain Pub and Restaurant at OS SS 882834. When reaching The Fountain Pub and Restaurant, Take the Next Immediate Right after the restaurant onto Fountain road, now heading North.

Continue on Fountain road for 0.5 miles until then Turning Right at OS SS 881843, past the Parc Slip Visitors Centre and Café and the Wildlife Trust South and West Wales to the left hand side.

You will then have reached The Bridgend Miniature Railway at OS SS 882843.

 

Opening Times

Bridgend Miniature Railway has scheduled open days for visits and these are also subject to seasonal changes.

For Birthdays and hiring of the venue, they allow full access for Saturdays between 2pm and 4pm, and Sundays between 11am and 1pm.

Transport

The Bridgend Miniature Railway is accessible via bus.

From Bridgend Bus Station (OS SS 905799) you can use  –

70 Cymmer service, then change at Sarn Odeon Bus Stop for the 63 Porthcawl service. Get off at Fountain Inn Bus Stop (OS SS 883834) and walk 0.6 miles (approx. 12 minutes) up Fountain Road (OS SS 882834) to your destination. There is however no pavement on Fountain Road and the side of said road is narrow and uneven grass.

There is no train service to Bridgend Miniature Railway.

Amenities

There are no toilets or disability toilets on site but you can find them at both the Parc Slip Visitors Centre and Café (OS SS 881842) and at The Fountain Pub and Restaurant (OSS SS 882834). They do however have areas for snacks but advise you bring a picnic or packed lunch.

The nearest village to The Bridgend Miniature Railway is Aberkenfig (OS SS 893835) which has plenty of eating establishments, a post office, shops and some accommodation. However the nearest town, Bridgend (OS SS 906800) also has more options for eating establishments, banks, post offices, accommodation and shops.
