"Pebbles and extraordinarily dark sand made of pounded grey slate form this rural beach. The same slate gives a brilliant deep blue colour to the water in the ‘Blue Lagoon’; a beautiful little harbour – a breached quarry – just to the north of the beach which is accessible for wheelchair and scooter users."

"There is disabled access at Abereiddi with a wheelchair-accessible path leading to the Blue Lagoon but no access to the pebble beach."

Brief Description: Abereiddy Bay is a shingle and dark sand beach surrounded by slate and shale cliffs. Fossils can be found in the rocks here.

"The area is popular with walkers, kayakers and coasteering lovers and closes annually in late September to allow its ever-growing grey seal colonies peace and protection.

About half the world's population of grey seals breed on the Welsh coastline and the total number in west Wales, mostly Pembrokeshire, is estimated to be about 5,000, with some 1,400 pups born each year." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-66876842

2023: "Blue Lagoon closed from 16 September to 4 November 2023

The Blue Lagoon is now closed due to the arrival of seal pups within the lagoon. All being well it will reopen on 4 November. Visitors will still be able to watch these wild creatures in their habitat from the Wales Coast Path. To avoid disturbing seals at this very important time of year, we recommends following the Marine Code: Stay quiet, keep your distance and at least 50m away from seals and never come between a seal and her pup, or a seal and the sea and don’t take dogs near a seal breeding area.."

"Abereiddy (Abereddi) beach:

Pebbles and extraordinarily dark sand made of pounded grey slate form this rural beach.

The same slate gives a brilliant deep blue colour to the water in the ‘Blue Lagoon’; a beautiful little harbour – a breached quarry – just to the north of the beach which is accessible for wheelchair and scooter users.

Be aware Abereiddy beach has strong currents. This is a popular spot for coasteering, climbing along the cliffs at sea level, leaping into the sea if you reach an impassable bit. Please enjoy coasteering as part of an organised group (search for coasteering providers here). Alongside the old quarry are a row of ruined cottages to explore.

If you’re planning to visit, check out the tide times to make sure you’ve plenty of beach to play on and that you don’t get cut off by the incoming tide!
